JURY FINDS NASSAU COUNTY MAN GUILTY OF TRAVELING TO MEET MINOR FOR SEX
State Attorney Melissa Nelson announces that a Nassau County jury found Richard Capra guilty of Traveling to Meet a Minor to do Unlawful Acts. As a habitual violent felony offender, Capra faces up to 30 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable James Daniel will sentence Capra at a later date.
On Aug. 24, 2022, Capra found the purported victim’s advertisement on a website and initiated contact. The victim was actually an undercover officer. The victim’s age was listed as 19 on the website, but the purported victim notified Capra via text messages that she was 14 years old. After being told three separate times that the victim was 14 years old, Capra solicited sexual acts for $125. Capra agreed to meet with the purported victim at a business in Nassau County. Officers with Nassau County Sheriff’s Office arrested Capra in the parking lot. $125 and a condom were found in the center console of his vehicle.
This case was investigated by the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Florida Department of Law Enforcement during an online enticement operation conducted in August of 2022, and it was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Chris Huband and Joel Powell.
